It’s the ancient equivalent of getting your ass kicked in a bar fight, and being called a pussy, and then asking the guy to help you up. Previously in Genesis, Abraham said that God had blessed him, so Jacob (AKA Israel), being the grandson of Abraham, took this blessing upon himself, combined it with the blessing from the man who kicked his ass, and several thousand years later, Ted Cruz believes “God blesses those who bless Israel.” because he learned it in Sunday school.
